Keith Alexander, 2015
Paolo Cirio

Acrylic paint on photographic paper
124 x 144 cm
Photo: Gianmarco Bresadola

For Overexposed, Cirio tracked down photographs and selfies of government officials in order to consider the aftermath of the Snowden affair and satirize an era of ubiquitous surveillance and over-mediated political personas. The works are produced via a specially developed HD stencil technique.  Keith Alexander served as director of the NSA until 2013 and is now a retired four-star general. [In the US military in Saudi Arabia, he was in charge of the intelligence teams involved in torture and prisoner abuse at Baghdad’s Abu Ghraib prison.] Having illegally monitored US citizens’ phone calls and emails, Alexander lied several times to legislators and the press.
